IN exercise of the powers conferred upon him by sections
30(5) and 31(6) of the Education Act (Cap. 327), the Chancellor of the University of Malta has promulgated the following bye-laws made by the Board of the Faculty of
Architecture and Civil Engineering in virtue of the powers conferred upon it by section 37 (1) of the said Act and which have been approved by the Senate of the University of Malta as required by section 37 (2) of the said Act:
1. (1) These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws of 2005 in terms of the General Regulations for University Undergraduate
Awards,
2004 for the Degree of Bachelor of Planning (Honours) – B.Plan. (Hons) - under the auspices of the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering.
(2) In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires -
“the Board” means the Board of the Faculty of Architecture and Civil
Engineering;
“the Board of Studies” means the Board of Studies for the Course appointed by Senate, which shall include academic members
from the Faculty and from the International Environment Institute;
“the Course” means the course programme leading to the Degree of
Bachelor of Planning (Honours) - B.Plan. (Hons);
“the Degree” means the Degree of Bachelor of Planning (Honours) - B.Plan. (Hons); and

“the Faculty” means the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering.
Applicability2. These bye-laws shall be applicable for courses commencing in
October 2003 or later.
3. (1) To be registered as regular students in the Course, applicants shall satisfy the general requirements for admission as specified
in the Admission Regulations.
(2) To be registered as regular students in the Course from October 2005 onwards, applicants shall, apart from satisfying the general requirements for admission as specified in the Admission Regulations, be in possession
of the special course requirements listed hereunder:
(a) two passes, one at Advanced Matriculation Level and one at Intermediate Matriculation Level, in Geography and in either Economics
or Sociology, both at Grade C or better; and
(b) a pass at Intermediate Matriculation Level at Grade C or better in Environmental Science.
4. The Course shall extend over a period of four academic years of full-time study, or the equivalent in part-time study.
Course ProgrammeTwo.
5. The Course shall consist of two parts, namely Part One and Part
6. (1) Part One shall extend over a period of three years and consists of a number of study-units to which a total of 180 credits
shall be assigned including Project study-units to which a minimum of 20 credits shall be assigned.

(2) Students shall be entitled to the award of the degree of Bachelor of Planning following the successful completion of
Part One, unless they are eligible and opt to proceed to Part Two.
(3) Students who obtain an average mark of 65% in Part One of the Course shall be eligible to proceed to Part Two.
(4) Students who proceed to Part Two, but fail to qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Planning (Honours) shall be eligible for
the Bachelor of Planning degree.
7. Part Two shall extend over a period of one year and consists of a number of study-units to which a total of 60 credits
shall be assigned, including a supervised dissertation on an approved topic to which 20 credits shall be assigned.
8. (1) For the purpose of the award of the Bachelor of Planning (Honours) degree, the Final Weighted Average Mark shall be based on the results obtained in the four years of the Course, which shall be weighted as follows:
First Year Average Mark | 20% |
Second Year Average Mark | 25% |
Third Year Average Mark | 25% |
Fourth Year Average Mark | 30%. |
(2) For the purpose of the award of the Bachelor of Planning degree, the Final Weighted Average Mark shall be based on the results obtained in the three years of the Course, which shall be weighted as follows:
First Year Average Mark | 30% |
Second Year Average Mark | 35% |
Third Year Average Mark | 35%. |
