FOOD SAFETY ACT (CAP. 449)
Kava-Kava Regulations, 2004
IN exercise of the powers conferred by article 10 of the Food Safety
Act, the Minister of Health has made the following regulations>
Citation.
Interpretation.
Prohibition of sale of food consisting of or containing Kava-Kava.
1. The title of these regulations is the Kava-Kava Regulations,
2004.
2. In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires> “Kava-Kava” means a plant, or any part of or an extract from
a plant, belonging to the species Piper methysticum. “food” includes>
(a) food supplements, as defined in the Food
Supplements Regulations, 2003, and
(b) non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages,
but shall not include medicinal products, as defined under the Medicines Act.
3. No person shall manufacture, sell or import into Malta any food consisting of, or containing, Kava-Kava.
