MERCHANT SHIPPING ACT (CAP. 234)
Merchant Shipping (Counting and Registration of Persons on
Board Passenger Ships) (Amendment) Regulations, 2003
IN exercise of the powers conferred by articles 103 and 374 of the Merchant Shipping Act, the Minister for Transport and Communications
has made the following regulations>–
1. The title of these regulations is the Merchant Shipping (Counting and Registration of Persons on Board Passenger Ships) (Amendment)
Regulations, 2003, and they shall be read and construed as one with the Merchant Shipping (Counting and Registration of Persons on
Board Passenger Ships) Regulations, 2002, hereinafter referred to as “the principal regulations”.
2. Regulation 2 of the principal regulations shall be amended as follows>–
(a) the definition of “High Speed Craft” shall be substituted by the following new definition>
“ “High Speed Craft” means a high speed craft as defined in Regulation 1 of Chapter X of the Safety Convention,”< and
(b) the definition of “the Safety Convention” shall be substituted by the following new definition>
“ “the Safety Convention” means “The International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea” signed in London on 1st November,
1974 including any amendment or Protocol related thereto as may from time to time be ratified, acceded to or accepted by the Government
of Malta and other instruments, standards and specifications of a mandatory nature related thereto adopted or developed by the International
Maritime Organisation.”.
