PUNISHMENTS (INTERPRETATION) [CAP. 23. 1
PUNISHMENTS (INTERPRETATION) ORDINANCE
To make provision respecting the interpretation of certain punishm ents.
(4th August, 1888)*
Enacted by ORD INANC E XVII of 1888, as am ended by Act XLIX of
1981.
(Interpretation) Ord inance.
2. Any existing or fu ture law, inflicting the punishment of death , imprison ment, solitary con finement , fine (mu lta or ammen - da ), d etention, or reprimand, shall be deemed to inflict th e co rres- ponding punish ment esta bl ished by th e Criminal Cod e for al l t he effects and consequ ences of this punishment, in the same manner as if the provis i ons of su c h la w for me d pa rt
of tha t Code , su bjec t, however, to the limitations laid do wn by such law.
3. Any law inflicting, in general terms, the pu nishments e stablished for contra ventions , sh a l l be de em e d to in
flict all the punish ments which, under the provisions of articles 341 and 344 of th e C r iminal Code may, sepa rat ely o r cum ula tiv ely, be ap pli ed to the contravention s referred to in that Code.
4. Any law directing the ascent or descent from one p u n i s h m e n t to an o t h e r s h al l b e d eem ed t o r
e f e r to th e s c al e o f pu nishmen ts and t o the other provi sio ns con tained in a rticle 3 1 o f the Criminal Code.
5. Any other provision o f the Crim inal Code shall be applicable in the case of any offence referred to in any special law, u nl ess su ch pro vi sio n be in co nsi sten t wi
th th e prov isi on s o f suc h law.
