The Gieh Repubblika (Administration) Act, 2008 (Bill No. 1)

A BILL

entitled

AN ACT to amend :ie[ ir-Repubblika Act, Cap. 251

BE IT ENACTED by the President, by and with the advice and consent of the House of Representatives, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows>
1. The title of this Act is the :ie[ ir-Repubblika Act (Amendment) Act, 2008 and it shall be read and construed as one with the :ie[ ir-Repubblika Act, hereinafter referred to as “the principal Act”.
2. Sub-article (2) of article 8 of the principal Act shall be amended as follows>
(a) in paragraph (b) thereof, for the words “not more than twelve persons” there shall be substituted the words “not more than fifteen persons”<
(b) in paragraph (c) thereof, for the words “not more than twenty persons” there shall be substituted the words “not more than twenty-five persons”< and
(c) in paragraph (d) thereof, for the words “not more than one hundred persons” there shall be substituted the words “not more than one hundred and twenty-five persons”.

3. In sub-article (2) of article 12 of the principal Act, for the words “one hundred” wherever they occur there shall be substituted the words “one hundred and twenty-five”.
4. Article 16 of the principal Act shall be amended as follows> (a) in sub-article (1) thereof, for the words “Long and
Efficient Service Medal, hereinafter in this article called the medal”
there shall be substituted the words “the Distinguished Service Medal, and a Medal to be known as the Long and Efficient Service Medal, hereinafter in this article called the medals,”< and
(b) in sub-article (4), paragraph (c) thereof, for the words “the Malta Prison Service” there shall be substituted the words “the Malta Correctional Services”.
5. In article 17 of the principal Act, for the words “Medal or a Long and Efficient Service Medal” there shall be substituted the words, “Medal, Distinguished Service Medal, or a Long and Efficient Service Medal”.

The object of this Bill is to increase the number of awards and decorations with respect to certain grades of The National Order of Merit and with regard to the Midalja g[all-Qadi tar-Repubblika, and to give recognition to distinct service given by members of the disciplined forces.
